Support Contribution by Delegation of the European Commission in Tanzania


Support to Most Vulnerable Groups (older people and OVCs); advocacy for older women's inheritance rights; advocacy for local development planning


Objectives:
- increased capacity for older people to care for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS
- mainstreaming an integrational approach into local development planning and practice
- school children support older people
- reducing poverty withing the most vulnerable households in Ruvuma Region
- promoting older women's inheritance rights in Mtwara and Lindi Regions
- increasing vulnerable people's access to healthcare in Arusha Region
- capacity building of implementing partners

Activities:
- awareness creation on impact, entitlements and services available through centres (info by older people, district officials, counsellors) and theatre groups
- psychosocial support and referrals to older people affecteb by HIV/AIDS by counsellors
- linking older people's groups with district government and advocate for inclusion of their concerns
- older peoples groups monitoring government progress towards NSGRP goals
- sensitise teachers and pupils on older people's concerns and involve them in competitions and community projects
- goat rearing and community-based revolving schemes
- train paralegal advisors in Mtwara and Lindi regions on inheritance and other related rights
- awareness and training to district health personnel, older people, health care workers,home based carer
