Support Contribution by Delegation of the European Commission in Tanzania


Support project to strengthen commercial capacities of agricultural producers


Objectives:
- Improvement of marketing conditions for agricultural products in Tanzania, to increase and secure farmers income
Improve the local and national marketing conditions of small-scale farmers:
- Improve conditions of physical markets where farmers sell their products at local level: to easier the access to farmers, to make the markets more reliable, secure and transparent, providing relevant services and information to the farmers
- Improve the general marketing conditions of farmers in Tanzania: to make the macro-economic environment more favourable to small-scale farmers, encourage local products, and sensitise government and civil society stakeholders to the importance of agricultural marketing issues

Activities:
- Capitalisation and dissemination of the experience gained during the implementation of the Rural Markets Development Project (2002-2004)
- Strengthening of the management of Kibaigwa, Nyandira, Tawa and Tandai half-bulk rural markets (Morogoro and Dodoma regions)
- Creation of two farmers' groups in Morogoro and Dodoma regions
- Support to farmers' groups in Morogoro and Dodoma regions
- Development of a marketing information system on prices and flows of agricultural products
- Implementation of promotional actions for agricultural products, participation of Mviwata to economic forums at national and international levels and realisation of commodity chain surveys
