Strengthening Community Based Health Care Among Hard to Reach Communities in Southern TZ


Objectives:
To improve the health status and quality of life of vulnerable populations in southern TZ and thus contributing to the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals.
To strengthen the capacity of civil society and local government in TZ to manage community based health care, reducing mortality and morbidity among children less than five years, pregnant women and other vulnerable groups.

Activities:
- Training of district health teams and peripheral health staff in the provision of effective anti-malarial treatment, the use of behaviour change communication tools for prevention and treatment, and diagnostics where appropriate.
- Training and support to community owned resource persons (CORPS)in diagnosis, referral, and as health educators. Home-based management of malaria in two most remote, underserved wards.
- development of participatory communication tools and health education materials
- support to civil society partners to advocate for the adoption of best practices relating to malaria prevention and conrol, and health care provision at community level across eastern Africa
