Support Contribution by Delegation of the European Commission in Tanzania
Reducing poverty in Rufiji-Mafia-Kilwa, Tanzania, through improved livelihoods and sustainable coastal and marine resource management
Objectives: - A healthy marine and coastal environment in Tanzania that provides sustainable benefits for present and future generations of both the local and the international community who also understand and actively care for its biodiversity and ecological integrity
- Improved socio-economic well-being of coastal communities in Rufiji, Mafia and Kilwa Districts through sustainable, participatory and equitable utilization and protection of their natural resources (measured by a 10% increase in the material style of life indicators in selected coastal households by 2011)
Activities: - Consolidate and extend micro-finance services, entrepreneur training and advisory support, consolidate and extend trials of demand-led livelihood technologies, facilitate dialogue with private sector
- Build capacity in collaborative planning, facilitate collaborative fisheries management planning, support implementation and strengthen sustainable financing
- Disseminate informaiton on the results of the action, raise awareness in schools about the marine environment, increase knowledge of legislation, rights and policies, increase capacity on marine resource management, mainstream social concerns into all activities
- Strengthen fisheries data collection and management, socio-economic monitoring in representative communities
