Pawaga sustainable development programme


Objectives:
- Alleviation of poverty and the enhancement of the quality of life, health and general wellbeing and vitality of the people living in the rural wards of Itunundu and Ilolompya, situated in the valley of the lower reaches of the Little Ruaha river and generally known as Pawaga.
- Harness the inherent development capacity of the target communities to enable them to participate in sustainable development and empowering women to exercise a more prominent role in the life and welfare of their communities


Activities:
- Health education training
- Construction of gravity water supply
- Sanitation improvement
- Anti-malaria measures
- Community capacity building

- Empowering the village communities to help themselves overcome some of the underlying causes of their poverty by training in health, hygiene, sanitation, Aids/HIV awareness and agricultural participatory development, contructing a gravity water supply system to deliver clean water to each of the 8 villages, to establish water users committees and train selected members in the operation and maintenance of the supply to ensure sustainability, to promote the construction of pit latrines, to encourage and promote the use of impregnated mosquito nets to combat malaria
