Northern Tanzania Pastoralist Programme


Objectives:
- Enhance the ability of pastoralists in Northern Tanzania to determine their own future development and adapt successfully to changing external pressures
- Build capacity of Barabaig pastoralists and representative local institutions to improve the security of their livelihoods and their access and rights to land and other resources

Activities:
- Capacity building in participatory land use planning, natural resource management training for village leadership, bye-law training, implementation of appropriate land use measures (water development etc), training of water user groups, marketing groups and goat groups
- Animal health through training of community-based animal health workers, access to community-based animal health care
- Research and advocacy support including information dissemination
- Participatory monitoring and evaluation
