Mwenga 3 MW Hydro Power Project
Objectives:
Long term economical and social improvements in the Mufindi district through the implementation of an environmentally sustainable renewable energy project and the connection and supply of energy 2,600 rural households, all related schools and dispensaries.
Activities:
1) Establish GENCO and DISCO
2) Develop a 3 MW hydropower plant on the Mwenga River;
3) Connect the HEPP via a 27 km line to the nearest TANESCO 33 kV line at Mdabulo; Connect the 14 villages mentioned above of Ihanu, Ibwanzi, Nandala, Iyegeya, Ikanya, Isipi, Lulanda, Kadete-Mdabulo and Kilosa on or near the line from the hydro station; Construct a line to the south of the existing TANESCO network that ends at Mdabulo to connect the villages of Mkonge, Mlevelwa, Igoda, Luhunga and Ikanin’gombe; Construct a 17km, 33 kV line to reach MTC to power the tea processing factory and to replace the use of diesel generation currently required to back up an unreliable power supply from TANESCO..
