Media Council of Tanzania (MCT)
Objectives:
1. To promote an enabling environment for freedom of expression through dialogue with government and advocacy on laws and policies;
2. Topromote ethicalpractice by maintaining high professional standards among its members;
3. To foster quality in media sector;
4. To research, document and disseminate critical media related issues
Activities:
1. Laws, Policies and Standards: Effective media needs an enabling operating environment. The MCT will work towards effective media laws, policies and standards that govern the space and operations of media in Tanzania;
2. Adjudication of complaints/Media Ethics by providing an arbitration mechanism for media cases, and promoting cohesion, professional solidarity, media editorial independence and press freedom, peer oversight, and learning from best practices as well as role models within the Tanzania media fraternity;
3. Research, Policy Analysis and Documentation in order to strengthen capacities, through sustained research and policy analysis improving also the ability to monitor the media and to identify areas of improvement.
