AMREF Water and Sanitation Umbrella Programme (WASUP) Tanzania project (Mkuranga)


Objectives:
Overall: To halve by 2015 the proportion of people who are unable to reach or afford safe drinking water and the proportion of people who do not have access to adequate sanitation.

Specific: To sustainably increase access to safe water and to sustainably increase the use of hygienic sanitation facilities in Mkuranga district.

Activities:
-Construct 200 Shallow hand dug wells and 55 deep boreholes
-Construct 97 demonstration rainwater harvesting facilities (rainwater jars) at public sites.
-Construct 97 demonstration VIP and ECOSAN latrines at public institutions
-Provide technical support for the construction of 2,500 household latrines
-Train community own resource persons (CORPS) and TOTs in PHAST approaches.
-Conduct hygiene and education training within beneficiary communities
-Conduct household visits for health promotion and monitoring improvements in health status.
-Conduct Water/health village days for the promotion of appropriate water, hygiene and sanitation practices...
