KfW / German Development Cooperation
KfW Entwicklungsbank, is part of KfW Bankengruppe. It is a government owned bank that provides loans and grants to finance investment and advisory services in its partner countries, concentrating on the long-term social and economic development.
KfW Entwicklungsbank is part of the German Development Cooperation aiming at improving the social and economic situation of people in developing countries. One of the instrument of German Development Cooperation to achieve its goal is Financial Cooperation (FC), which KfW Entwicklungsbank carries out on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). As such, FC finances investments and complementary consultancy services that are carried out by partners in the developing countries. In addition, KfW Entwicklungsbank advises the decision-makers within the BMZ as well as the local partners with comprehensive professional expertise.
KfW contributes to the three focal sectors of German Development Cooperation in Tanzania. FC has been carried out in Tanzania since 1962 and KfW has established an office in Dar es Salaam in 2000.
Sectors / Areas of SupportBeing part of the German Development Cooperation FC focuses on health, water and governance.
Approach to Supporting Civil Society:KfW supports civil society through its projects and indirectly by supporting the SWAP Basket of the health, governance and water sector. It is an integral part of these SWAPS agendas to promote civil society and its participation in sector policy dialogue.
Strategical Framework/Country Strategy of Cooperation in Tanzania:KfW’s engagement is guided by the Country Concept Paper and Focal Area Strategy Papers of the BMZ. Commitments to the jointly agreed focal areas are made by the German Government at the occasion of Intergovernmental Negotiation which takes place every three years. The next three years commitments are expected to be done in the year 2009.
